Staveley is a thriving community in the beautiful Lake District National Park, perhaps the last real working village in Cumbria.

Its fortune was built on wood turning – making bobbins for the Lancashire cotton industry. Since the decline of cotton Staveley has successfully managed re-invented itself, whilst retaining the ethos of a working village.

In the old Mill Yard you will find a plethora of modern businesses that cater for the needs of the community and tourists coming into the village throughout the year.

Staveley boasts a local shop and post office, a butchers, artisan bakery, numerous cafe’s and coffee shop, a public house and even a brewery with its own bar – offering a huge selection of real ales, stouts and beers for the connoisseur.

The village is a mecca for cyclists – hosting the UK’s largest cycling shop “Wheelbase” in the Mill Yard. It is also a wonderful base for walkers, offering easy access to such hidden treasures as Kentmere & Longsledlle for the dedicated walker or maybe a gentle stroll to Windermere along the Dales Way for those who don’t feel inclined to climb Wainwright’s peaks.

Transport links are excellent via rail and bus. We are on on the main bus route from Kendal to Keswick via Windermere and also have a train station on the Lakes Line – making Staveley your ideal base to explore the Lake District whilst enjoying your accommodation in style at Reston Hall.
